        Slim’s Bio: Slim Bloodworth is a comedy natural and a MUST see for those who like their comedy with a subtle dose of reality! Slim’s sage like humor has a youthful twist that is both brutally honest and seriously funny . The Louisiana born Texas native began her comedy career in Houston, TX at the legendary Laff Stop Comedy Club in 1999. Slim onstage is a ball of freewheeling, good-humored energy that is physical and expressive, covering subjects that range from cultural and social mishaps to things you wish you would have said, and things you wish you didn’t. Slim became a nationally touring comic in 2001 and was an international headliner by 2004. She was featured in the comedy documentaries “The Circuit” and “Red, White and Bitch”. In 2007 Slim joined up with RoofTopComedy.com – THE Online Comedy Underground. Slim is a part of the growing web based streaming video networks and can be seen on web channels such as “DailyMotion”, “Truveo”, “Sling”, and “Hulu”. 12/2 – Above Ground Comedy presents “Fleur De Laughs” Standup Comedy Show

FDL_logo FIN[1]Open Mike standup comedy is an american tradition of live entertainment whereby anyone at least 18 years of age may perform as much as 5 minutes of orgional material for a live audience.

Above Ground Comedy takes open mike further by closing each show with an experienced, renown comedian performing their act with new bits thrown in for practice.

Audiences witness talent from all levels. There is always humor, drinks, food and surprises for everyone.

This Wednesday, Above Ground Comedy is proud to present native Baton Rouge comedian, Joe Barbor. Joe is most popular as witty columnist for Red Shtick Magazine and weekly host of Plucker’s Triva. For years, college coeds and “bros” from the south especially flock to him for his charming ability to poke fun at local stereotypes and human behaviors. Everyone will enjoy the most likeable guy on Santa’s naughty list.

Open Mike sign up is 7:00pm – 8:00pm on day of event at the entrance.

$5 cover, Free for performers and guests arriving before 8:00pm.

Weekly drink specials include $1.00 “Comic”azi shots.

As Terminator once said at Above Ground Comedy open mike, “Come with me if you want to laugh.”

    Headliner: Brian Scolaro. Those performing in the OPEN MIC will have plenty to learn from watching Brian Scolaro. Brooklyn born Brian Scolaro is a stand up comedian most famous for being Stuart on two seasons on FOX’s “STACKED” with Pam Anderson and Christopher Lloyd. Before that, he rose to the top of the New York Stand up scene and after doing the new faces show at Montreal Just for Laughs Comedy Festival, Brian moved to Hollywood to be a regular castmember on NBC’s “THREE SISTERS” (2001-02). He has also done stand up on “LATE NITE WITH CONAN O’BRIEN” (2008), COMEDY CENTRAL’S “LIVE AT GOTHAM” (2007), “COMICS UNLEASHED” and recently shot his half hour special “COMEDY CENTRAL PRESENTS: BRIAN SCOLARO” (2008). He has also acted in SHOWTIME’S DEXTER, HBO’S LIFE AND TIMES OF TIM, DISNEY’S “WIZARDS OF WAVERLY PLACE,” and Bob Odenkirk’s “THE BROTHER’S SOLOMON.”

Description: This week Above Ground Comedy is proud to present at Station Sports Bar Baton Rouge’s favorite local and traveling comedians including: Van Chew, Andy Ledford, Cami Miller, Aaron Chatelain, AO, Johnny Worsham, John Lombard and others during the best and ONLY open mic standup comedy in Baton Rouge. When the open mic is over, stick around for Wednesday’s headliner, Skip Guidry. Skip’s Bio: A native of New Orleans, Skip could call in sick to work everyday, and never be lying. He draws his humor from his dark sense of the world, and somehow leaves you sore from laughing all weekend. You can see Skip every week at The New Orleans Stand Up Comedy All Stars open mic’ at Sidney’s Sports Bar (The New Orleans area’s longest running comedy venue) in Marrero, Louisiana. A relative new comer to stand up, Skip had a break out performance at the 2009 New Orleans Comedy Arts Festival. Skip won the feature slot in a “Stand-up Smack Down” edging out 40 local comics. Skip also made the final 4 (out of 75) of the 2009 Baton Rouge Funnybone version of The Last Comic Standing. Skip has appeared on ABC’s Good Morning New Orleans (yes as a comedian, not a witness to a murder) and has opened/featured for: Tom Rhodes, Tony Woods, Jodi Borrello, The Disgruntled Clown, Dave Russo, Bill Dykes, Slim Bloodworth, and many more. Host, Cameron Brexler is a North Carolina native who moved to Baton Rouge in 1999. He graduated from Louisiana State University in 2007 with a B.A. in political science and minor in performance studies. Since 2005, he has performed standup comedy in clubs across Louisiana, California, and Colorado including Comedy Store (Los Angeles, CA), HaHa Cafe (Los Angeles, CA), Denver Improv (Denver, CO), Comedy Works (Denver, CO), and Funnybone (Baton Rouge, LA).

Headliner, Bill Dykes is a Houston, Texas native who moved to New Orleans in 1991 after graduating from the University of Texas – Austin with a B.S. in Film Production. He has been a professional stand-up comedian for eight years. Bill has performed at such venues as the Improv Olympic West, House of Blues, Birmingham’s Stardome and Houston’s Comedy Showcase. He has worked with names like Lewis Black, David Cross, Will Durst, Steven Lynch, and John Heffron, among others. In addition to appearing in a number of TV and radio commercial, Bill was also recently featured in the Time Picayunes widely read “Straight Eye for the Queer Guy” article. Bill can be seen on TLC’s “Faking It!” and in the upcoming film “The Pizza Wars” on ABC. His DVD and CD, “Barely Alive at Le Chat Noir” will be available this fall. He has also performed 2 USO tours in Iraq.

Above Ground Comedy is proud to announce our weekly show is raising money for Disabled American Veterans (DAV) through our November 11th show on Veterans Day. In addition, our venue, the Station has graciously agreed to match the funds we raise. We’d like to invite any other businesses to join us in supporting this worthy organization.

The DAV’s Voluntary Services Program operates a comprehensive network of volunteers who provide veterans free rides to and from VA medical facilities and improve care and morale for sick and disabled veterans. They also represent veterans and their dependents with claims for benefits from the Department of Veterans Affairs and Department of Defense.

The DAV’s 1.2 million members provide grassroots advocacy and services in communities nationwide educating lawmakers and the public about important issues to supporting services and legislation to help disabled veterans.

Through Veterans Day, all members of the armed services will get in free with military ID.

Above Ground Comedy hosts a stand-up open mic with Headliner weekly at the Station (4608 Bennington Ave.) on Wednesday nights, doors open at 8:00pm. Admission is $5. $3 with College ID. Audience members who arrive before 8pm will get in free.
